Newvengers
New College Orientation 2016

What is Orientation?

Hello and welcome!

The New College Orientation Team is excited to present Newvengers, the 2016 New College Orientation program!

Our Orientation is a four-day program from September 6th-9th dedicated to welcoming incoming students to New College and helping these students transition both academically and socially to different aspects of university life. New College prides itself on putting together programming to make this transition as smooth (and as fun!) as possible.
By participating in Orientation, you get to:

  • Meet, befriend and learn insider tips from upper-year student leaders
  • Choose from a number of academic and skill-based workshops aimed at giving you the best preparation possible for your upcoming year
  • Join the New College community as it celebrates its college pride at Bed Races and the University of Toronto Student Union parade
  • Attend a semi-formal event at one of Toronto’s most well-known and iconic landmarks, the Royal Ontario Museum
  • Go sightseeing on double-decker buses around the City of Toronto
  • Meet other incoming students who live both on- and off-campus!

If you want to know more, check out the information below and don’t hesitate to contact us at neworientation.ca!
We look forward to seeing you in September!

Cheers,
Madeline and Nadine

    Frequently Asked Questions

You are more than welcome to pack snacks but lunch and dinner will be provided on most days with the exception of dinner on Friday. Meals will mostly be provided out of the New College Caf, which caters to students with any dietary restrictions!

No, New College will not be providing any accommodations on residence to commuter students during Orientation Week. Orientation participants are more than welcome to stay with friends who live off-campus and on-residence. Sleeping bags will be provided if needed. New College Orientation however is looking into providing free transportation to New College commuters from different locations during the mornings of Orientation week. More information will be posted shortly.

No worries, although it is preferred that you show up on time so that you don’t miss out on quality programming, you will not be penalized in any way.

You are encouraged to participate in as many programs as you can! Our programs are well balanced both academically and socially, so there will always be something new to learn and new friends to make.

Yes, you will! There will be both academic and social events that take place with the entirety of the St. George Campus. Such events include the bed races, the parade, Pre-Uoft and the University of Toronto Student Union (UTSU) Orientation events on Friday!

For the safety of our students and to accommodate the diverse backgrounds of students partaking in New College Orientation, Newvengers will be a dry event.

Registration is currently open and live at http://www.newcollege.utoronto.ca/registration/orientation_2016.
You have until September 1st to register online, after which you can register and buy your Orientation kit in person during New College Orientation.

YES! There will be many phone charging stations throughout New College facilities to keep your mind at ease! Please note that New College is not responsible for items left at charging stations, so we advise you keep watch over any items that belong to you as they are charging.

You will be provided with one Newvengers shirt as part of your Orientation kit. While we encourage you to wear it, your wristband provides you entry to the majority of Orientation events.

Ignite is a free, compact and academic-focused orientation whereas Newvengers will include both academic- and social-based activities. Ignite is limited to the first 100 students who sign up and will take place between Monday September 5th and Tuesday September 6th, whereas Newvengers takes place from the 6th of September to the 9th of September. On the Tuesday Ignite will have joint programming with regular Orientation until the evening. Students can register for both programs if they so wish.

New College prides itself on its inclusive and accessible events. For this reason, rather than a club night we’ll be holding a semi formal at the Royal Ontario Museum. Should students wish to go clubbing they will have the opportunity to do so Friday night as part of the University of Toronto Student Union Orientation that is open and free to all UofT students.

Access to Newvengers events is restricted to only those who have purchased an Orientation Kit; however, non-New College students may purchase an Orientation Kit.
